The ground and the access
Imerovigli is the highest point on the rim, and that elevation is the whole character of the place. The road runs along the top and the properties descend from it — sometimes a long way. A property that appears to be beside the road may be forty or fifty steps below it.
That vertical drop changes the logistics compared with Oia. Where Oia is a horizontal problem — a long lane — Imerovigli is frequently a vertical one, and the practical answer is often a hoist or a temporary material lift rather than carrying. Setting that up is a job in itself and it needs somewhere to stand, which on a stepped property is not always available.
The ground is caldera-rim material: tuff where the caves are cut, looser deposit above, and built-up terracing in between. - Specify for wind. Anything mounted externally — solar, condensers, pergolas, panels — needs fixing designed for this exposure, not a catalogue default.
- Inspect balustrade fixings. At this height above the caldera, corroded base fixings are a life-safety matter rather than a maintenance one.
