How matching works

The three steps

1. 01

   You describe the job

   About two minutes

   One form. The most useful thing you can do is describe the symptom rather than guess the trade — "the power trips whenever it rains" routes better than "electrician", because it tells us it is probably an external fitting rather than the board.

2. 02

   We work out who is right

   Usually same day

   A person reads it. The question is not only which trade, but which of them suits this job: who works on stepped access, who is comfortable in a yposkafo, who is honest about not knowing something, and who is already committed for three weeks.

3. 03

   They contact you directly

   Then it is between you

   You get a name and they get your details. Price, scope and dates are agreed between the two of you. We are not a middleman, we do not hold your money, and we do not take a percentage.

What we can tell you, and what we cannot

The value here is knowing the island. That is real, and it is also limited, and being clear about the boundary is more useful to you than a confident-sounding promise.

We can tell you which trade you need

Including when the answer is two trades in a particular order, which is the thing most often got wrong. A damp wall in a cave house is frequently a waterproofing job before it is a plastering job, and doing them the other way round wastes both.

We can tell you who works this way

Who is used to no vehicle access, who does traditional lime work rather than cement render, who will actually come back for a snag.

We can tell you when nobody is free

And roughly when they will be. In August this is the honest answer often enough that it needs saying out loud.

We cannot certify or licence anyone

We are not a regulator and hold no register. Where Greek law requires a licensed professional — a civil engineer for structural work, a certified electrician for a new supply — that is between you and them, and you should ask for the paperwork.

We do not insure or guarantee the work

No warranty passes through this site. If something goes wrong, your recourse is with the person who did the work, under whatever you agreed with them. This is exactly why the next section exists.

We cannot promise a price

Any figure on this site is a typical island band, not a quote. Only the person who has seen the job can price it.

What you should still do yourself

Being matched to the right person removes the hardest part. It does not remove the ordinary care you would take anywhere.

• Get the scope in writing before work starts, even for a small job. One paragraph is enough.
• Agree what happens to the price if something unexpected is found once a wall is open — this is the single most common source of a dispute here.
• For anything structural, or anything needing a permit, confirm which licensed professional is signing it off.
• Pay in stages against work completed, not up front. A deposit for materials is normal; paying the whole job in advance is not.
• Keep the photos you took before work started.

Why it is free

Because the cost of finding work is real, and a well-described job landing in front of the right person is worth something to them. A tradesperson who spends two hours driving to quote a job that was never theirs to do has lost the afternoon.

You are not the product either. We pass your details to one person for one job. There is no auction, no lead sold three times, and no list. If that ever changes it will be written here before it is written anywhere else.
